Odour Control
Common odours in carpet and upholstery can be divided into three categories: Organic waste like pet urine and vomit; biological contamination like mold and mildew; and smoke-related odours from cooking fumes and tobacco products.
Pet urine, vomit and feces odours are most effectively eliminated by Un-Duz-It. This product contains enzymres (complex organic substances formed in cells of plants and animals) that decompose and eliminate organic-related odours. Un-Duz-It liquifies and dissolves all organic odour sources thereby permanently eliminating the unpleasant odour.
Un-Duz-It is mixed with water at either a 1:1 ratio for odour problems only or a 1:2 ratio for spot problems. For the product to work effectively, it must directly contact the odour source and dwell for a minimum of 15-20 minutes so that the contaminant will be totally dissolved or absorbed by the enzymes. Injection is necessary if there is a heavy concentration of urine in the carpet backing or padding. You will note that the directions on the bottle indicate that an acid rinse should be applied to the area prior to applying Un-Duz-It for urine odour problem.
VonSchrader odourless acetic acid can be used for this purpose. A dilution ratio of four tablespoons per gallon of water should be followed. Most urine deposits are alkiline and it is necessary to neutralize the PH of the urine deposit for the enzyme digester to work most effectively.
You can identify the location of urine spots by using the VonSChrader black light. Darken the room and shine the black light on the carpet surface. A yellow discolouration will appear where urine entered the carpet. Remember, urine will spread outward when it reaches the carpet backing. Injection in an area of sufficeint size so that all contamination in the carpet backing will be totally eliminated.
The size and gender of pet(s) will also impact the severity of urine odour problems. Larger pets will deposit more urine. Male pets generally disperse urine on more surfaces and over a lager area than females.
Mold/mildew growth is another common cause of odour problems. Overwetting from improper cleaning or flooding from toilet overflows or broken pipes are among the culprit of mold/mildew contamination and attendant odours. Attack this odour problem with Microban.
